ANSI -- Definition

Standards for information

The  American  National Standards  Institute  (ANSI)  includes a  standards
committee called X3,  which writes and publishes standards for information-
processing systems.  Relevant ANSI standards include the following:

X3.4-1977
     Code for Information Interchange

X3.64-1979
     Additional Controls for Use with ANS Code for Information Interchange

X3.159-1989
     Programming Language C
