Grace Church

Location: California/Stockton (SE corner).

The Grace Church parish, founded in 1849, built an imposing Gothic church at California/Stockton in 1862-1868. The pre-1906 photos below show the church before the addition of its bell tower. When the building was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake, the church moved to the block California/Jones/Sacramento/Taylor on Nob Hill, previously the site of the Crocker Mansion. Construction on the new Grace Cathedral continued from 1910 through 1964.

An unrelated Grace Church (Grace Methodist Episcopal Church) was in the Mission, at 21st/Capp.
