~san/tennis/rackets 6/19/06 Tennis racket rentals 5/02 at Lombardi Sports, Jackson/Polk, 415-771-0600. Tried already, in approximate rank order: 1. Wilson Triad 6.0, ??? sq. in., 4 3/8, $160, 5/14/02, 5/15/02. Notably less shock absorbant than 5.0. It does seem to have more power, would be interesting to try in next to Core 1. More zip and more control than with 5.0, but without question rates lower on the elbow issue. I play much better with this than with 5.0, for no obvious reason. 2. Wilson Triad Hammer 5.0, 98 sq. in., 4 1/2, $180, 5/10/02, 5/14/02. As with Triad 4.0, feels great, very easy on elbow, vibration dampening definitely works. Decent control and touch, though seems less easy to generate power (and, says Ira, less variation in shots) compared to Kennex Core 1. But this is likely winner just due to elbow issue. 3. Wilson Triad 4.0 oversize, 110 sq.in, 4 3/8, $190, 5/13/02. Feels better than the Triad 4.0 midsize but not as good as the 5.0. Again, seems ideal for elbow issue. Would probably rank slightly below Kennex Core 1 for playability, but elbow issue moves it up. Ira suggests larger head size seems to work well for me. 4. Kennex Core 1 No. 24, (ca. 110 sq. in.?), 4 1/2, $190, 5/10/02. Good feel, hit excellent backhands consistently with it, though forehands seemed less good, don't get why. Backhand half volleys of deep shots by opponent worked very much better than expected, perhaps due to the larger head size. For power, precision and feel, this is probably the best I've tried, but I currently put it behind the Triad 5.0 because of elbow issue. 5. Wilson Triad 4.0 midsize, 100 sq.in, 4 3/8, $190, 5/6/02. Feels great from beginning, very easy on elbow. May not generate power, Ira says it feels somewhat dead to him. Like it much better than Kennex above, definitely a contender. 6. Prince Triple Threat Tungsten, 100 sq. in., 4 1/2, $???, 5/13/02. 7. Prince Thunder, 115 sq. in, 4 1/2, $???, 5/8/02. Larger head than I'm accustomed to using. Feels rather easy on elbow, solid, not quite as good as Triad. Ira suggests it feels solid when hit correctly but erratic when not hit at center of strings, probably right. 8. Head Intelligence Ti.S4 mid plus, [ca. 105 sq. in?], 57 lb., 4 3/8, $???, 5/8/02. Very similar in shape to my current Head Ti.S2, very slightly larger head. Seems to generate more power than Prince Thunder, but does not feel great, though less vibration than my current Head. 9. Kennex Kinetic Pro 7G, ??? sq. in, 4 1/2, $150, 5/6/02. As claimed by Lombardi, seems fairly easy on elbow. Pingy until vibration damper added. Feels more natural at net than my usual Head.
