Dyades (2016) by Haris Kittos
for flute, clarinet, violin, and cello
US premiere

Dyades is a duet between two duets (flute + violin, bass clarinet + cello), where all ideas and compositional material also carry a dyadic character. This means that the work actually consists of two independent pieces that can be performed both at the same time and separately. When performing the whole piece as a quartet, each duet is absolutely together rhythmically, but the two duets are performed with slightly different speeds between them. However, there is a climactic point in the piece when both duets 'meet' and must be absolutely 'together'.
