Michael Seth Orland (piano) has performed and recorded widely as a chamber musician, soloist, and accompanist, playing with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, the Empyrean Ensemble, Earplay, and Other Minds. He has also appeared at Cal Arts, April in Santa Cruz, and June in Buffalo (N.Y.), and played on recordings released by Centaur and Capstone, among others.
Orland has often played for or coached with noted composers, including Steve Reich, Alvin Curren, Morton Subotnick, Andrew Imbrie, and Frederic Rzewski. He studied piano with Margaret Kohn and composition with Gérard Grisey and David Sheinfeld. Orland teaches in the music departments at UC Berkeley and UC Davis.
