Applicants

Earplay, in joint sponsorship
with the College of Creative
Arts at San Francisco State
University, is pleased to announce
the seventh Wayne Peterson
Prize in Music Composition.
The Award consists of a $3,500
cash prize and a public performance
by Earplay during the 2004-2005
season.
To be eligible, composers
must be 40 years old or younger
(as of January 1, 2005) and
U.S. citizens or legal residents
of the U.S. or its Territories.
Submissions must be anonymous
(please use a pseudonym on
the score) and consist of a
single 10-16-minute composition
for 3-6 players chosen from:
flute/piccolo/alto flute, clarinet/bass
clarinet, percussion (one player),
piano, violin, viola, cello.
The use of pre-recorded electronics
is acceptable.
The composition (1) must have
been written within two years
prior to January 1, 2005, (2)
must not have been awarded
a national or international
prize, and (3) may have been
previously performed. Former
winners of the Peterson Prize
are not eligible to compete.
Applicants should send two
bound copies of the score,
two CD recordings (if available),
and a stamped, self-addressed
envelope for return of materials,
plus a completed application

lieu of an application form,
you may send a sealed envelope
(with the pseudonym on the
outside) which contains the

January 31, 2005 (postmark
date). An entry fee of $25.00
in the form of a check or money
order made out to Earplay and
drawn on a U.S. bank must accompany
the entry. The winner will
be announced in May 2005 and
will be expected to provide
a complete set of parts no
