Location: Market/Geary/Kearny (700 Market).
The Mutual Savings Bank was founded in 1889 by James Phelan, James G. Fair, and James K . Moffitt. The 12-story Mutual Savings Bank building designed by Curlett and Moore opened in 1902. Its site is a five sided parcel between Market and Geary, not extending quite to the corner of Market/Geary, so its towers have an odd asymmetric look from some directions. It survived the 1906 earthquake with no major structural damage, but the interior was destroyed by the fire. It still stands today (in 2025), with a little-known public rooftop garden (entrance: 23 Geary).
