.jpg, quality 90; provide comment HP software vs. XP: XP wizard allows easy modification of brightness/contrast and is easier for multiple scans (using back arrow). If you set resolution in HP while still scanning preview, auto resolution set may reset it before the actual scan. Preview is unnecessary if scanning multiple images of the same size. Scanning textured input (e.g. funny photo finishes) seems to come out better with XP rather than HP, don't yet understand why.
