Bari and I spent a week in NYC for Thanksgiving 2015. We stayed at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Chinatown, at the corner of Bowery and Hester. Our 16th-floor room (nominally 16th, but actually 14th, no floor 13 or 14) had a spectacular view north up Bowery: an unobstructed view of a dozen blocks of traffic flowing up and down Bowery between Grand and Cooper Square, with the Empire State Building dominating the skyline beyond. I particularly loved the nighttime view: amber streetlights framing the street left and right, white southbound headlights, red northbound taillights, cycling green/yellow/red stoplights, intermittent traffic on crossstreets, occasional flashing blue/white/red from police cars and firetrucks. Great show, a tiny slice of the amazing logistics of Manhattan Island. Revisiting my old Piet Mondrian favorite "Broadway Boogie Woogie" at MOMA reminded me of the view I'd been looking at for a week; these videos are Bowery Boogie Woogie, my homage to that view.

The distance from Hester to E 5th is about a mile (5000'). The elevation of the hotel room is ca. 12 ft/floor * 14 floors = 168 feet.
